So you really want know where the Makers of Maryland came from, huh?
Well, if I'm being 100% honest, it happened on accident...but it was very serendipitous, I must admit.
The end of 2018 was coming quite quickly and I was thinking heavily about how to grow my circle in the new year. I had a small and stable community but wanted something more! Now, if those from my "small community" are reading this, I loved you back then but you just weren't enough for this little social butterfly, okay!? JK! ;)
Seriously though, I was starting to see just how BIG the Maryland art world was and knew I had to jump in! So, I made the Makers of Maryland page, made tons of connections with people in the new year (I mean, I was going to networking events every day!) who were doing the same thing I was - wondering how to do better, be better, charge our worth, hell, even figuring out how to do our taxes. Starting a small business isn't for the weak, and luckily we can all be strong together.
Not only was I yearning for a creative community, but lets be real - it's hard to make friends in the real world! I needed friends that would understand me, understand my complaints and hardships and know how to push me. It's like your retail friends telling you their troubles and you've only ever worked in the service industry -- it's hard to encourage when you don't understand.
Just like that, the Makers started to grow & talking with new followers, I kept hearing, "This is great! We need this!" , "We really need a community, you're starting something great", & from then on, it has been my mission to serve the Makers.
I've never wanted to be the leader, but rather the facilitator. I want to give everyone the tools they need to succeed without having to find all of the answers themselves.
I know, I know, I should write short stories, right?
In conclusion, I am here for you! Jump on in and swim around. There's tons going on here! And if I'm missing anything, please let me know :)
All my love,
